memoirs
2009-03-02

my new favorite genre of book is very random and very specific: african childhood memoirs.

they are all so intriguing. i've read them all, or started to read them all. the white afrikaans of rhodesia (now zimbabwe), the first privileged then oppressed "congo" people of Liberia, the child soldiers of Mozambique, and the lost boys of Sudan.

they are all so intriguing and different but also the same.

they all know that they have been cheated from something, from many things. but none feel bad for themselves, and after all its put them through, and though most of them no longer live there, all have a passionate unyielding love for Africa.

either way they are all beautiful stories and i can't seem to get enough of them and can't wait to read more.
